Chinatown

This Chinatown is the oldest in the world. It was established by the Spaniards in 1594.

Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz

The plaza was the centre of economic acitivites during the Spanish colonial period. The plaza has a statue of Lorenzo, a memorial to Chinese Filipion victims of WWII and a obelisk in memory of Tomas Pinpin.

Historic street created in 1594. During the Manila-Acapulco Galleon trade times, this area has a high concentration of immigrant merchants especially from Fujian China. This area has early skycrapers in the Philipines. Near Carriedo Station, LRT Line 1.

Malate Church

The church was first built in 1588. It was re-built several times in history. It was damaged in the 1645 Luzon earthquake and ordered destroyed in 1667 due to the threat from pirate Koxinga.

Plaza Dilao Statue of Takayama

This areaa has a small Japanese population in 1593 which grew to 1500 - 3000 in 1603. In 1606 - 1607 , they led a rebellion against the Spanish. The Japanese population grew further when Japanese refugees under Takayama Ukon fled here to escape the interdiction of Christianity in 1615.

The main building was constructed in 1927 and is the first earthquake-resistant building in the Philippines.This is the oldest existing University in Asia was founded on 28 April 1611.
